Importance of Ushnodaka and Arogya Ambu in Monsoon Season
Greetings friends,
As the monsoon season progresses and the month of Shravan brings enthusiasm across India, Ayurveda suggests not just changes in food and lifestyle but also in the way we consume water.
Since nearly 70% of our body is composed of water, Ayurveda lays emphasis on consuming water in a therapeutic way. Fire-processed boiled water is not just hydration but acts as medicine in itself. This is known as Ushnodaka.
Benefits of Ushnodaka
According to Ayurveda, Ushnodaka:
- Breaks down the accumulation of Kapha (mucus),
- Regulates Vata dosha,
- Improves weak digestion during monsoon.
Plain water in monsoon is considered heavy and difficult to digest, while boiled water becomes highly beneficial.
Health Effects Based on Reduction Stage
- Reduced to 1/4th: Balances all three doshas – Vata, Pitta, Kapha.
- Reduced to 1/2: Balances Vata and Pitta.
- Reduced to 3/4: Specifically effective for balancing Vata.
Arogya Ambu and Monsoon
Water boiled until one-fourth remains is called Arogya Ambu, which holds special significance in monsoon:
- Useful in fever, cold, cough, and respiratory issues
- Cleanses micro-channels of the body
- Triggers fat lipolysis
- Rapidly distributes nutrients throughout the body
Thus, Arogya Ambu not only aids digestion but also strengthens immunity during seasonal transitions.
